The European Documentation Centre (EDC) is an establishment of the European Union. Its purpose is to support teaching and research as well as to convey the policy of the European Union to the interested public. It contains the documents and official publications of the EU which are catalogued, filed and made accessible for its users. The EDC is open to anyone!

The official documents of the EDC are available in the catalogue of the MPI catalogue of the MPI . The collection also includes information material, booklets, maps and posters.

Since 1963 the European Union has built up a worldwide information network worldwide information network, to which the European Documentation Centres belong. More than 50 exist in Germany.

The library of the MPI Heidelberg had already undertaken documentation activities before the European Documentation Centres were established. Therefore the EDC includes documents from the formative years of the European Communities and – exclusively in Germany- many publications in French.
