Academic Career:

Holger studied law as well as English and French law and language at Münster's Westphalian Wilhelms University. He graduated with the German equivalent of a J.D. in 2000. In 2001 he obtained an LL.M. degree from UC Berkeley. From 2001 to 2002 he worked as a junior research fellow at Heidelberg's Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law. In 2003 he returned to UC Berkeley as a visiting research fellow. From 2004 to 2006 he clerked in Hamburg, Berlin, Speyer, Madrid and Alicante. In 2006 he obtained his J.S.D. from the University of Hamburg with a thesis on "The WTO and Human Rights: The Case of TRIPS and Access to Medication". From 2006 to November 2007 he worked as a senior research fellow at the institute. From November 2007 to January 2009 Holger was at UC Berkeley school of law, first as senior visiting research fellow, then as lecturer. He then stayed as a visiting research fellow at the legal research institute of UNAM, Mexico until May 2009 and as a visiting fellow at the European University Institute in Fiesole, Italy until September 2009. He returned to the institute in October 2009 to head an Otto Hahn Group.

Holger was a German National Merit Foundation Fellow, a German National Merit Foundation Doctoral Fellow and a Fulbright Fellow. His doctorate was awarded with an Otto Hahn Medal and an Otto Hahn Group. He is admitted to the New York Bar.

Holger is a Member of the Executive Council of the Society of International Economic Law and Co-Chair of the Red Latino-Americana de Derecho Internacional Económico.
