Research Area (V): Multiple Systems

The projects in this research area consider and compare different legal orders and their approach regarding the relationship of ethics, morals and the law, the development of norms and the implementation of such normative structures in the area of bioethics and medicine. This includes the national levels, yet also European and international law.The intriguing aspect of this research can be found in the divergences but also convergences of regulatory solutions found in the different systems. The aim of the projects in this area is thus to identify incongruence, contradictions and lacunae in the legal orders, yet also concurring principles and structures that determine the relationship of ethics and morals in this area.

A particular focus will be on the ethical and legal challenges of globalized clinical drug trials in developing countries, and on ethical codes and guidelines in science and research that are to ethically limit the freedom of research.
