Course Content

The course covered the following topics in international investment law:

- Foundations of international investment law;

- Procedural law for investor-state arbitration (both ICSID and non-ICSID arbitrations);

- Jurisdiction of arbitral tribunals;

- Admissibility of claims;

- International responsibility for treaty breaches (covering the investment protection standards found in investment treaties); and

- Defences to international responsibility under investment treaties

Assessments tasks consisted of online quizzes and participation in a moot court.  Participation in the moot court included drafting statements of claim and statements of defence as well as arguing at two oral hearings (one on jurisdiction and admissibility and another on merits).  These oral hearings were presided over by a counsel from a leading international law firm.
