Fake News, Facts, Fiction – Ordering Global Public Spheres (Berlin Correspondences - Part 9) with Anne Peters and Rogers Brubaker

With Anne Peters und Rogers Brubaker

Lies are as old as politics. But the structural transformation prompted by digitalization confronts us with the problem of truth: Fake news, bots and alternative facts influence democracy. Is international order legitimized through comprehensible public discourse – or is it the result of manipulative influences? How do we decide between facts and fiction? Anne Peters, outstanding scholar of international law and a director at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law, and Rogers Brubaker, professor of sociology at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) discuss to what extent fundamental political will-formation and democratic decision-making are at stake and what destabilizes them.

Berlin Correspondences is a Matinée Series of the Gorki Forum and the Humboldt University of Berlin in Cooperation with the Foreign Office.

Free admission. Registration requested on forum@gorki.de

In German and English. The event will be translated simultaneously.
