MPIL Momentum "Transformative Constitutionalism in Latin America - Cases and Developments"

A Panel Discussion with René Fernando Urueña Hernández (Universidad de Los Andes, Bogotá) and Ximena Soley (Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law), moderated by Alexandra Kemmerer (Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law).

For more than a decade now, scholars and legal practitioners have developed the idea of a Ius Constitutionale Commune en América Latina (ICCAL), an original Latin American path of transformative constitutionalism. Can supranational constitutionalism, can democracy, the rule of law, and human rights be responses to corruption, hyper-presidentialism, social and political exclusion and authoritarian setbacks? René Urueña and Ximena Soley take a closer look at current events and developments.

The event is hosted by the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law.

The panel discussion is part of MPIL Momentum, a series of lunch talks organized by the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law’s Berlin Office, featuring new research from the Heidelberg Institute and current issues in international law, bringing together an audience from academia, politics, government, the media, and from a wider public – students, professors, diplomats, journalists, politicians, lawyers, a microcosm of Berlin-Mitte. We hope to welcome also many of our alumni and alumnae, and friends of the Institute.
