On a quarterly basis, the Institute publishes the Heidelberg Journal of International Law (HJIL/ZaöRV) in print and online. Issues which are older than one year can be downloaded free of charge from the Institute’s homepage. The Journal is peer-reviewed.
The Institute has been editing the Journal of the History of International Law (JHIL) since 2004. In 2014, Anne Peters became Editor-in-Chief. Further editors are Emmanuelle Tourme Jouannet (Paris), Randall Lesaffer (Tilburg and Leuven) and Miloš Vec (Vienna). Peter Haggenmacher (Geneva), Michael Stolleis (Frankfurt) and Rüdiger Wolfrum (Heidelberg) are emeritus editors.
The Institute publishes an in-house series, called Contributions on Comparative Public Law and International Law (Beiträge zum ausländischen öffentlichen Recht und Völkerrecht). The monographs in this series present the results of the Institute’s own research projects and those of its researchers and also highlight selected projects carried out by affiliated external researchers. Most of the monographs are open access.
The field of comparative constitutional law has seen increasing academic interest in recent times, not least because of its considerable practical relevance. When confronted with questions concerning the drafting and interpretation of constitutions, government officials and high court judges increasingly look abroad for assistance and inspiration.
