MPIL Journalist in Residence

Leticia Casado is a reporter for the Brazilian news portal UOL with many years of experience in reporting on politics and economic issues. She has provided intensive journalistic coverage of Lula da Silva's political career, the Bolsonaro government, and most recently the ecological crisis in the Amazon rainforest, publishing articles in Folha de S.Paulo, Valor Economico, and the New York Times. Leticia Casado will be at the Institute from July to September, making up for a stay originally scheduled for 2020 and postponed several times due to the pandemic. She will focus on the inadequate international response to the environmental destruction as well as violence against indigenous peoples committed under Jair Bolsonaro's authoritarian populist government. She will also research possible international law norms against impunity in the context of ecological crisis and democratic regression.
